Ōtara Proud Day To Celebrate Community, Culture And Youth Voice This Saturday

The Men’s Health Trust New Zealand, in partnership with the Ōtara Scorpions Rugby League Club, is proud to host Ōtara Proud Day this Saturday, 2 May, from 10am – 3pm - a vibrant community event celebrating identity, connection and positive pathways for rangatahi and whānau.

Held at the Ōtara Scorpions grounds, the day marks the official kick-off of the Scorpions’ 2026 rugby league season, alongside a powerful showcase of music, culture and community-led initiatives.

A highlight of the day will be the live debut of the Ōtara Proud Song - a community anthem co-created by local rangatahi as part of the Soul Brothers 274 programme, and led by respected Ōtara artist Brother D. The performance represents the culmination of a seven-week journey focused on identity, mental wellbeing, leadership and resilience.

The event will feature:

  • Live performances from local musicians
  • Community stalls and activations
  • Family-friendly activities
  • Opportunities to connect with local services and support networks

Community leaders and partners attending include Councillor Alf Filipaina, Lotu Fuli, Local Board Chair Apulu Reece Autagavaia, and ROCC Advisors including New Zealand Police.

A wide range of organisations will also be present on the day, including: MUMA, ROCC, Pacific Homecare, Turuki Health, Elections 2026, Le Va, The Cause Collective and 4BP Braves

Ōtara Proud Day is part of the wider Soul Brothers 274 initiative, a Men’s Health Trust NZ programme delivered alongside the Ōtara Scorpions, supporting rangatahi through mentoring, sport, life skills and community connection, with a focus on building resilience and reducing vulnerability to harm.
