ArtistAlexMilnCalls On Public To Support NZ Artists By Casting Vote For Bay Of Plenty Times People’s Choice Award

Award-winning Papamoa basedartistAlexMiln, who was shortlisted as a finalist in the prestigious TheMilesArtAwards 2022 for his piece, ‘Bel Air’, a metaphor for the ‘American Dream’, is calling on the public to encourage them to vote for their favourite artist for the The Bay of Plenty Times People’s Choice Award for the Miles Art Awards 2022.

The Miles Art Awards 2022 exhibition features a curated exhibition of the works of 34 Bay of Plenty artists. The public can cast their vote for their favourite artist either in person at The Tauranga Art Gallery or online by visiting the Tauranga Art Gallery’s online gallery:

The works will be available to view until 15 May 2022. The Bay of Plenty Times People's Choice Award is to be announced after public voting in May 2022.

Papamoa-based artist Alex Miln said,

“It’s vital that we support local NZ artists, and by casting your vote for this award, it helps to ensure that artists are recognised for their work. There are many exciting pieces that comprise the exhibition and it’s great to be able to have the opportunity to see art from some of New Zealand’s best artists side by side. There’s nothing better than art to bring people together and to encourage debate, all while helping to support the creative industry.”

Alex’s piece ‘Bel Air’, one of the pieces featured within the exhibition, is renowned for his complex and provocative 3D sculpturalartpieces, many of which take over 1,000 hours to complete, and all of which combine a clever play on form, function and medium with a dash of satire, ensuring they capture one’s attention while being truly unique. Eachartpiece thatAlexcreates is made from plywood and aluminium, which he then paints using up to 13 layers of paint to create the illusion of an aged patina.
