Pōhutukawa Tree Revealed As Georgina Beyer On The Masked Singer Nz

24 July 2022 - The Masked Singer NZ is back and better than ever! Former politician Georgina Beyer was the first celebrity to be unmasked on tonight’s episode, exclusive to Three and ThreeNow. The celebrity guessing panellists successfully deciphered the clues to identify Georgina under her dazzling Pōhutukawa Tree costume.

Former politician Georgina Beyer was the world’s first openly transgender mayor, as well as the world’s first openly transgender Member of Parliament, serving more than seven years as an MP. In 2020, Georgina was made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to LGBTIQA+ rights in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

Georgina belted out ‘Fever’ on tonight’s premiere episode, going up against Gladiator Alligator who performed ‘Moondance’. On being a part of the global phenomenon format, she commented: "It was a thrill to be involved in The Masked Singer NZ, although it was sadly all too brief. While I was quite nervous, the challenge was exciting and out of my comfort zone, and the support from production helped to calm my nerves and make it a worthwhile and fun experience."

TV and radio personality and celebrity guessing panellist Sharyn Casey added: "Georgina is a total legend, we were so honoured that she got amongst it and like everything she does, she smashed it out the park! I had a feeling it was her but then stole Jono's guess, and rightfully so."

New episodes of The Masked Singer NZ air every Sunday at 7pm on Three and ThreeNow. The hit show is based on the South Korean series King Of Mask Singer, which has since inspired hugely popular American, British and Australian versions.
