A Debut Milestone Event For Muriwai As A NZ-accredited Surf Championship + Music Festival Combine!
Introducing WAVEFORM, a new annual festival event planned for Tāmaki Makarau encompassing Music and Moana. WAVEFORM festival co-partners with SURFING NZ to deliver the ‘WAVEFORM SURFING NZ OPEN’, to be held for the first time at Maukatia / Māori Bay, just south of Muriwai on Auckland’s West Coast.
To launch the new festival concept, the WAVEFORM LAUNCH PARTY will be held at Muriwai Surf Club on Saturday 4th March, and celebrate the surfing event with a full, live music experience to be complemented with quality food and beverages – the perfect day out of music and surfing for the summer music lovers and the beach-going boarder culture.
The WAVEFORM launch party features a musical programme of multi-genre performers with West Auckland indie 5-piece PARK ROAD, airwave maestro of reggae, funk, soul, hip-hop, dub and beats MC SLAVE, indie singer-songwriter RITA MAE, turntable queen of vintage soul, funk and groove SISTER ROSA, lover of hip-hop old and new DJ HUDGE, and cross-genre house and disco ace DJ BENTO.
Set to become an annual event and music festival, WAVEFORM has at its heart a program with a multi-genre, bi-cultural vibe combining music, art, great food and beverage options with the healthy zen blend of sun, sand, and surf.
As for the WAVEFORM SURFING NZ OPEN, this is a first for the Muriwai beach area, never having played host to a competition of this size and profile before, and is also a welcome addition to the growing list of national surf competitions in New Zealand.
Happening over two days with free to public viewing of this exciting sporting event, both the women’s and men’s heats run on Friday 3rd March, with the finals running on Saturday 4th March when official accreditation and prize money will be awarded to competition winners.
