MAKING VISIBLE Exhibition – Sharing Stories Of Storm Recovery In East Coast Bays, Mairangi Arts Centre 14th - 19th June
Join us for a powerful, community-led storytelling experience shaped through creative process – Making Visible Exhibition, to be held at the Mairangi Arts Centre from 14-19th June 2025. The exhibition is the result of numerous conversations and five facilitated community storytelling workshops, where participants were invited to bring along a significant object, something that held meaning emotionally, symbolically, or as a tangible part of their experience of the severe weather events in 2023. The result is a collective experience of creative reflection and strength through connection; one that continues to inform our recovery.
"This has been a chance for people affected by the storms to connect with neighbours, share their experiences and make visible the stories that shape our relationship with this coastal landscape of the East Coast Bays." Says Wendy Lawson, local artist, arts therapist and workshop facilitator.
In addition to the workshops, Community Development facilitator, Kristi Shaw, from Auckland North Community and Development Inc. has compiled a strong programme of events, which includes an interactive Open Day, a well-being Sunday, a commissioned ‘Making Visible Our Collective Experience’ video compilation of stories, and a series of other community offerings to enjoy. Check out the full schedule. We look forward to welcoming you to the exhibition as this story continues to unfold.
Presenting the exhibition is Auckland North Community and Development Inc. (ANCAD).
