Books Take Flight At This Year’s Tamariki Book Festival
Fourteen local authors and illustrators will gather at Tūranga, Christchurch’s central library, on Sunday 13 July for this year’s Tamariki Book Festival, providing bookish fun for toddlers to teens.
This year’s theme is Books Take Flight, and festival goers will find lots of flight-themed fun on offer, including wearable wings at the selfie station and a chance to make your own writing take flight, literally. Tamariki Book Festival has also teamed up with the Air Force Museum of NZ for even more flight-themed fun and prizes.
Participating authors will be running fun, book-related activities for all ages, and will be selling their books, which include everything from humorous picture books to young adult fantasy novels. The festival is a once-a-year opportunity for children and teens to meet local authors and illustrators in person, and pick up signed copies of their favourite books.
“Being an author is about connecting with your readers. Our goal is to facilitate this in a fun, festival environment, where kids can meet real authors and become inspired to both read and write.” says Tamariki Book Festival Board chairperson, Robinne Weiss.
The festival will be held at Tūranga from 11 am to 4 pm on Sunday 13 July. Workshops for budding authors and illustrators will be presented by participating authors on Saturday 12 July. Workshop spaces are limited, and people can register at: https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/tamariki-book-festival-2025-4284703.
