World Tennis Tour Professional Event To Launch In Hamilton This December
Professional tennis returns to the Waikato this summer with the launch of the World Tennis Tour Hamilton, a brand new event on the ITF World Tennis Tour. The tournament will take place at the Waikato Tennis Centre from 8-14 December 2025, showcasing some of the best rising stars in international tennis.
Players from around the world will compete for ATP and WTA ranking points and a share of over $50,000 in prize money. The event brings top-level tennis to Hamilton and adds another exciting stop to New Zealand’s growing summer tennis calendar.
Hosted at the Waikato Tennis Centre, the venue is well known for its quality facilities and flexibility, with indoor courts available should weather affect the schedule. This ensures players and fans can enjoy uninterrupted tennis throughout the week.
The event marks the first time in recent years that a professional-level tournament has been staged in Hamilton. Wayne Peterson, Waikato Tennis Trust’s Regional Tennis Development Manager, says the tournament is a milestone for the region.
“We are so proud to be hosting the World Tennis Tour in Hamilton. We believe the event has real scope to build and become a mainstay for the Waikato public and for the best up-and-coming players. We can’t wait to get stuck into the first iteration this year and encourage the public to come down and check it out.”
Spectators can expect a week of exciting tennis action, with free public entry to all matches. Food and coffee vendors will be on site, and the event will run daily with matches from morning through evening.
Naming rights sponsor Bayleys Real Estate has thrown its support behind the tournament which will be known as the Bayleys Open. They are looking forward to seeing it grow in the years ahead.
“We’re thrilled to support the very first Bayleys Open in Hamilton,” says Gabriella Troutbeck, GM Marketing & Communications for Bayleys Waikato. “It’s special to be part of something from the ground up, and we believe this event will go from strength to strength. “
The event has also been supported through the Hamilton City Council Event Sponsorship Fund and Brian Perry Charitable Trust.
