Winnipeg Canada 23 August 2025 – New Zealand’s Hector McNeilly has earned a silver medal at the World Archery Youth Championships, delivering an outstanding performance against the world’s best young competitors.

The 17-year-old archer showed remarkable focus and composure throughout the tournament, progressing through the elimination rounds with strong, consistent shooting. In a nail-biting final, McNeilly secured the silver medal — his best international result to date and the first silver medal for New Zealand at the youth event. (Stephen Clifton was the previous medallist in 2004 winning Bronze).

McNeilly’s achievement is the result of years of dedication, from training daily on his home range to competing in national and international events, competing earlier this year at senior events in Florida USA and Shanghai, China. His silver medal is a significant milestone in his career and a moment of pride for his family, coaches, and the New Zealand archery community.

"Hector has worked tirelessly to reach this level," said Archery NZ spokesperson "His determination, work ethic, and ability to perform under pressure have truly paid off. This result is just the beginning of what he can achieve."

With this performance, McNeilly has established himself as one of the most promising young archers in the world and an athlete to watch as he continues to build his international career.
