Wellington Artist Transforms Empty Retail Space Into Art Exhibition For Ukraine
An empty retail space on Lambton Quay has been transformed into a moving art exhibition by a local artist and engineer Steven Seo, aiming to raise awareness and support for children affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The exhibition features original canvas paintings that portray the brutal realities of war, displayed alongside powerful, award-winning photographs that document the devastating situation in Ukraine. Contributing photojournalists include Brendan Hoffman, Carol Guzy, Evgeniy Maloletka, Laurel Chor, Paula Bronstein, and Timothy Fadek / Redux — all of whom have generously granted permission for their work to be shown. Together, the collection captures the human cost of war with urgency, empathy, and depth.
The free-entry exhibition is open to the public at 86 Lambton Quay, Wellington Central, until 5 September 2025, with the following hours:
Monday–Friday: 1pm – 6pm
Saturday & Sunday: 10am – 6pm
Special art prints and merchandise are available for purchase at the venue and online at www.demiseo.com. 50% of all profits will be donated to the Voices of Children Foundation, a Ukrainian charity supporting children impacted by war. The remaining 50% will be reinvested to grow the project and expand its impact. The remaining 50% will be reinvested to grow the project and expand its impact.
