Tom Walsh Qualifies For World Championships Final

Tom Walsh has qualified for the men’s shot put final at the 2025 World Athletics Championships. His second round throw of 21.74m saw him safely over the auto standard of 21.30m. Only three athletes joined Walsh in the auto-qualification positions, Adrian Piperi (USA) with 21.47m, and reigning world champion, Ryan Crouser (USA) 21.37m. Walsh was the best of the qualifiers this morning.
He returns to the shot circle tonight at 21:10 JST for the men’s shot put final.
Nick Palmer made a strong world championships debut, finishing in 15th place just 20cm shy of a qualifying spot. Palmer’s best of 20.18 was one of his strongest throws of the season, which has seen him become a more consistent 20m+ thrower.
Zoe Hobbs and George Beamish also compete tonight in the women’s 100m heats and the men’s 3000m steeplechase heats respectively.
