Tennis Auckland Buoyed By Funding Towards Roof Project

Tennis Auckland is thrilled with today’s announcement of a $5m contribution by the New Zealand Government towards construction of a roof over the Manuka Doctor Arena centre court in downtown Auckland.

This investment follows earlier contributions of $2.13m in grants, donations and spend from Tennis Auckland itself towards the overall $15m project.

Tennis Auckland is confident that today’s announcement, along with other funding and donation options currently being negotiated, will enable the organisation to formally green light the project in the near future.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the announcement from the New Zealand Government. Our event delivered a gross economic boost to Auckland of $22.3 million this year,” said Tennis Auckland CEO, Rohan West.

“The roof will mean not only an improved facility for the fans, but also surety around weather-proofing the ASB Classic for the future. We have been hard at work with funding and investment projects and this news from the NZ Government means we are much closer to being able to confirm the project.

“We are hopeful that we will be in a position to celebrate the new roof during 2027 and for the ASB Classic at a covered Manuka Doctor Arena in January 2028 and then start to host a myriad of other events with the guarantee of a dry and sun protected venue.”
