NZCT Gives InterAct Festival A Boost To Celebrate Creativity And Ability

New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) has awarded a grant of $11,709.35 to support this year’s InterAct Disability Arts Festival, held at the Corbans Estate Arts Centre in Henderson helping ensure the festival can continue providing a platform for people with disabilities to celebrate their creativity and abilities.

Operations Manager Sabrina Ou says, “This support makes a real difference in helping us deliver the festival safely and successfully.”

The InterAct Disability Arts Festival is a three-day event running from 22–24 October, celebrating people with disabilities through dance, drama, kapa haka, poetry, sculpture, and painting. More than 2,000 people are expected to attend. The festival also includes workshops, a wearable arts parade, a mini-market, and interactive opportunities for everyone.

Rishup Singh, drama, hip hop, and film-making student says, “I really love performing, meeting new crews, and making new friends backstage.”

Allyson Taffard-Mallon, teacher aide adds, “Interact is a highlight of our school’s calendar… It’s a truly awesome and totally magical experience that’s hard to put into words, because it's the feelings it generates that really resonate with me – like a greater sense of belonging, inclusion, community spirit, and the experience of being part of a totally amazing community event.”

Nikki Singh, volunteer and parent says “I enjoy volunteering at the festival as I get to experience various groups in the community showcasing their talents. It’s a great platform for all these uniquely capable individuals to shine.”

NZCT’s GM of Grants, Marketing and Communications, Ben Hodges adds “Thanks to the responsible gaming partnerships we share with our Auckland venues, we’re delighted to help make creative expression accessible to all.”
