The Kiwi World #2 On The Brink Of Global Stardom — “Motu Reloaded” Hits Auckland Next Week

New Zealand’s own Mea Motu 22-1 (Te Rarawa) is closing in on one of the biggest moments in Kiwi boxing history. Ranked #2 in the world in the super featherweight division, Motu is on track to challenge for the undisputed world title against American boxing superstar Alicia Baumgardner — likely to be on a Jake Paul MVP card broadcast live on Netflix.
Before that, the West Auckland fighter will defend her WBA Oceania title in her final home bout — “Motu Reloaded” — on Friday, 14th November at ABA Stadium, Auckland.
“This is the fight before the fight,” says her coach and manager Isaac Peach. “Mea’s one win away from the biggest stage in the sport — where the whole world will finally see what she’s made of. She’s fought her way back from the darkest places, and now she’s fighting for history.”
From a survivor of domestic abuse to a world champion and mother of five, Motu’s story is one of New Zealand’s most powerful sporting comebacks. She’s become a role model, and is active in the community using her story to inspire rangatahi and advocate for mental health and domestic violence awareness through her work with the I Am Hope foundation.
“This fight isn’t just about belts,” says Motu. “It’s about mana. It’s about showing our rangatahi, our wāhine, and our people that you can rise above anything. Every time I step in that ring, I carry my whānau, my iwi, and Aotearoa with me.”
The stacked fight card also features Emma Nesbitt 9-1 (Ngati Kahu, Te Rarawa) defending her WBA Oceania title, and Sonny Morini 9-0 (Ngati Hauaa) battling for the New Zealand welterweight title, in what’s expected to be a sell-out night for Kiwi boxing fans.
