BNZ Breakers Sign Tai Webster As Injury Replacement For Izayah Le'afa

The BNZ Breakers have officially announced the signing of dynamic guard and former BNZ Breaker Tai Webster as a nominated replacement player for the remainder of the NBL26 season. He returns from playing professionally in France.

The dynamic guard replaces Izayah Le'Afa, who has been ruled out for the season after X-rays today revealed a stress fracture in his foot.

BNZ Breakers President of Basketball Operations Dillon Boucher commented on the signing:

"It’s incredibly unfortunate for Izayah. He has been working extremely hard, and this is a tough blow,"

"Adding a player of Tai's calibre at this stage of the season is a massive boost for our group. We know exactly what he brings to the floor - energy, pace, and defensive intensity.

"Beyond his skills, he is a local guy who understands what this club means to the community." Boucher said.

The acquisition marks a significant move for the BNZ Breakers as they look to solidify their playoff push. Webster, an Auckland native, brings a wealth of high-level international experience and proven NBL knowledge back to his hometown team.

Known for his explosive speed, ball-handling, and ability to create his own shot, Webster joins the squad immediately, and is with the team in Hamilton.

Webster’s basketball resume includes significant stints in Europe (Galatasaray, Žalgiris Kaunas). He has had impactful seasons in the NBL for the Perth Wildcats, two seasons at the BNZ Breakers alongside his brother, Corey Webster. His return provides the BNZ Breakers with a versatile backcourt option capable of playing both guard positions.

Tai Webster shared his excitement about returning to Spark Arena.

"I’m incredibly excited to pull on the BNZ Breakers jersey again. There is no feeling like playing in front of my family, friends, and the BNZ Breakers fans."
