Scoular Hoping To Go One Better In 2026

Scoular – 18 - was the surprise performer in the 2025 championship in New Zealand with the Dubai based Kiwi turning heads in his first home campaign with two wins and seven podiums on his way to second overall in the championship behind Arvid Lindblad. He also achieved a creditable second place in the New Zealand Grand Prix, was Rookie of the Year and won the Trans-Tasman Trophy.

Following his success in New Zealand, Zack headed to the northern hemisphere and a campaign in Eurocup-3 with Indycar driver Alex Palou’s Palou Motorsport team to gain further single seater motorsport experience.

Zack is hoping a second campaign in New Zealand with mtec Motorsport will get him back on the top step of the podium and allow him to challenge for the title.

“I would love to be able to win the championship in front of home crowd,” he explained. “I really enjoyed the championship campaign last season and learned a lot, but I would love to go one better this time around.”

“Every race is a chance to show how much I have grown.”

Zack started his racing at the age of nine having developed a love for the sport following his father’s participation in New Zealand’s iconic Targa Rally.

Living in Dubai, he was a regular competitor in Formula 4 in the Emirates championship and in the UK championships before making his NZ debut. He finished 15th overall out of 33 drivers in his rookie year of the British Formula Four Championship and fifth in the Rookie Cup.

The 2026 Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Championship promises to be one of the most closely fought in over two decades of New Zealand’s premier international motorsport championship.

Two new teams bring the team total to six and a significant number of the world’s leading junior single seater drivers will take part. Many are targeting F1 futures and will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of more than 25 graduates of the championship who have driven or tested officially in F1.

Those graduates include current F1 champion ship leader Lando Norris, Kiwi Liam Lawson, Japan’s Yuki Tsunoda and Argentina’s Franco Colapinto.

Fans will be able to follow this coming season’s impressive list of drivers and the championship easily. Qualifying will be livestreamed on TOYOTA GAZOO Racing New Zealand’s YouTube channel. Races will also be on that channel and on SkySport domestically in New Zealand. Races will also be streamed live on the Motorsport.TV platform.

About the Repco NextGen NZ Championship

Season two of the Repco NextGen NZ Championship comprises six incredible events showcasing the best of international and local motorsport throughout the summer.

The season includes back-to-back rounds at Hampton Downs, Taupo, Teretonga (Invercargill) and the 70th running of the New Zealand Grand Prix at Highlands Motorsport Park, now sponsored by NAPA. The season finale will be held at Manfeild, near Palmerston, in early March.

The championship is headlined by the return of the Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Trophy, the Bridgestone GR86 Championship, Summerset GT New Zealand and the TA2 New Zealand Championship.

A special two-round historic Formula Atlantic showcase will be a highlight, along with the Porsche NZ Championship, GTRNZ, NAPA Central Muscle Cars, the NAPA Auto Parts NZ Formula Ford Championship and the NEXEN Tyre Mazda Racing Super Series.
