Local Voices Take Centre Stage In Sport Manawatū’s New Movement Campaign

Sport Manawatū has launched a new summer campaign called What Moves You? inviting people across Palmerston North, Manawatū, Tararua, and Horowhenua to share the personal reasons behind why they choose to be active.

The campaign runs throughout December and January and encourages locals to submit short written stories, photos, or videos explaining what motivates their movement. Whether it is getting outdoors for a moment of calm, being active with whānau, enjoying the social side of team sport, or simply having fun, What Moves You? highlights the many ways people find joy and wellbeing through being active.

Sport Manawatū staff are leading the way by sharing their own stories of movement, including Chief Executive Kelly Shanks, whose video highlights the importance of getting outdoors, being active with her children, and the social connection that comes from being part of a team. Their involvement sets the tone for the campaign and encourages others across the region to reflect on and share what moves them. A series of community voices will follow, including contributions from local organisations and well known Manawatū faces.

Head of Communications and Impact, Rachel O’Connor, says the campaign is about celebrating everyday movement while building a deeper understanding of what motivates people across the region.

“Everyone has their own reasons for being active. Some are heartfelt, some are light-hearted, and all of them help us understand what movement really looks like for our communities. These stories also strengthen the evidence that guides our planning and the work we do with partners.”

All entries go in the draw to win a $250 Move Your Way prize pack. Selected stories will be featured across Sport Manawatū’s channels during the summer and throughout 2026.
