Operatunity Celebrates 25 Years Of Music, Magic, And Making Memories!
Nearly 1 Million Tickets Sold and Counting!
New Zealand’s beloved musical treasure, Operatunity, proudly celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2026, marking a remarkable quarter-century of entertaining, inspiring and uplifting audiences across the country.

Founded in 2001 by husband-and-wife team Susan Boland and John Cameron, Operatunity has grown from humble beginnings into one of New Zealand’s most cherished live performance companies — presenting hundreds of concerts annually, championing local talent and showcasing an astonishing range of musical genres, from opera, musical theatre and classical to swing, jazz, rock and roll, and more.
Over the past 25 years, Operatunity has presented over 3,000 concerts nationwide, employed and nurtured hundreds of New Zealand artists, musicians and technicians, welcomed nearly 1 million concertgoers, brought music to town halls, churches, theatres and community venues from Northland to Invercargill and built a vibrant, loyal audience of music lovers — many of whom have attended right from the beginning.
At the heart of Operatunity’s success is its commitment to excellence, accessibility, and joy. Known for its warm, welcoming atmosphere, dazzling performers and feel-good energy, the company has become a lifeline for many senior and regional communities, bringing world-class performances to local audiences who might otherwise miss out.
Operatunity’s 2026 season is a glittering celebration of its rich history — featuring favourite artists, special anniversary concerts, and the same heartfelt magic that has made it a household name in New Zealand’s performing arts scene.
“We are deeply humbled and proud to celebrate 25 years of sharing music with our beautiful audiences,” says co-founder and soprano Susan Boland. “What began as a dream to make live music more accessible has become a national movement of joy, community, and connection. We can’t wait for what’s next.”
As Operatunity looks to the future, its mission remains the same: to uplift, entertain, and unite New Zealanders through the power of music.
