HEARTS And ACES Head Out On The Road For Super Smash Doubleheader

Auckland’s Super Smash campaign continues on the road on Saturday 10 January, with a South Island doubleheader in Christchurch featuring the Canterbury Magicians against the Auckland HEARTS at 2.10pm, followed by the Canterbury Kings taking on the Auckland ACES at 5.55pm.

With the Super Smash moving into a crucial stage of the season, both Auckland sides will be eager to convert recent strong performances into valuable points as the ladder begins to tighten.

The opening match sees the HEARTS arrive in Christchurch with confidence after a dramatic one run victory over the Volts in their most recent outing. In a low scoring thriller that went down to the final ball, Brooke Halliday held her nerve under pressure, delivering a match winning dot ball with the final delivery to secure a memorable result.

With the bat, captain Maddy Green once again led from the front, top scoring with a composed 42 in difficult conditions. Her innings proved crucial in a contest where runs were at a premium, and continued a consistent run of performances at the top of the HEARTS order.

That result has kept the HEARTS firmly in the mix as they chase finals contention, making the clash with the Magicians an important opportunity to build momentum and consolidate their position as the competition enters its decisive middle phase.

The evening fixture sees the ACES head into the contest in strong form following a dominant 88 run victory over the Volts. Batting first, the ACES produced one of their most complete performances of the season, posting an imposing 200/6.

Opener Dale Phillips set the tone at the top of the order, blasting a rapid 77 from just 36 balls at a strike rate of 214 to put the opposition immediately on the back foot. He was well supported by Bevon Jacobs, who continued the momentum through the middle overs with a fluent 53 off 32 balls, ensuring the ACES maintained pressure throughout the innings.

The performance highlighted the depth and firepower of the ACES batting lineup, as well as their ability to capitalise when building a total, as they look to carry that confidence into another important away fixture against the Kings.

Live coverage of the Magicians v HEARTS match begins at 2.10pm on TVNZ+ and DUKE, followed by the Kings v ACES clash at 5.55pm.
