Award-winning New Zealand children’s artist Michal Bush has released five episodes of her new preschool music series via RNZ.

Michal Bush, of Music with Michal Studios, is producing 20 episodes of the series, Music with Michal, with funding from NZ On Air.

With a run-time of roughly 10 minutes, the episodes comprise original songs and music videos, craft activities and music lessons, with occasional guest appearances from other Kiwi artists.

The episodes are set in Michal’s ‘music room’ – a colourful and inviting film set that she and her team built in their Christchurch studio.

“It is a really proud moment seeing these episodes sit alongside content by other amazing New Zealand creators on the RNZ site and I am excited to be reaching new audience members, beyond my regular YouTube channel.”

As a mother of three daughters, Michal has been creating music and videos for young children since welcoming her first child in 2012.

Her extensive body of work includes five albums, all produced by Andy and Victoria Knopp of The Response in Christchurch, as well as six books, countless live shows, and co-creation of popular YouTube and television series Michal and Moe with Auckland-based Jeremy Dillon.

Music with Michal is in its second season, with Jeremy onboard as co-writer, and Michal says she is proud of the digital material her “small but mighty” team is producing.

“Our focus is on teaching kids about music and emotional wellbeing in a fun, interactive way. I love when I hear about children actively engaging with my Music with Michal persona – guessing instruments, moving in silly ways, dancing and calming their bodies through mindful breathing exercises. It is nice for Kiwi kids to hear a Kiwi accent on screen too.”
