Mighty By Night Brings Aotearoa Lyrics To Life In The Heart Of Tāmaki Makaurau

Waitemata-Station | NZ Music Month / Supplied

A large-scale projection is lighting up the Waitematā Station building in Te Komititanga this NZ Music Month, transforming the space into a canvas for Aotearoa songwriting.

Running from Thursday, 7 May to Tuesday, 19 May, Mighty by Night, showcases lyrics from artists featured in the Mighty pop-up experience in Te Komititanga, bringing their words into public space through projection mapping and animation.

Mighty by Night is supported by Auckland Live and Auckland Council Events, in celebration of NZ Music Month. The activation is an Interesting Things production developed by Creature Post, and forms part of Auckland Live’s NZ Music Month programme, extending the Mighty experience into the city.

Visible after dark, Mighty by Night invites Aucklanders and visitors to encounter music in an unexpected way, with lines from some of New Zealand’s most exciting artists appearing across the building’s façade. Featured artists include The Beths, Geneva AM, LEAO, Rewind Fields, Hun Lynch and Reb Fountain, reflecting the diversity and creativity of the local music scene.

Tātaki Auckland Unlimited Director of Auckland Live Daniel Clarke says the activation brings songwriting into the public realm.

Mighty by Night takes the words of Aotearoa artists and places them right in the heart of the city, where people can encounter them in a fresh way. It’s a simple idea, but a powerful one - bringing music into everyday spaces and making it visible during NZ Music Month.”

“Alongside experiences like Mighty, it’s part of how we’re creating moments across the city centre that feel open, creative and easy to be part of. It’s another example of how Auckland is always on.”

By day, audiences can experience Mighty, an intimate pop-up theatre in Te Komititanga where small groups step inside a 10-foot container for one-song acoustic performances. Mighty by Night is an after dark experience, bringing those artists’ words to life in the centre of the city.

Visit Te Komititanga from Thursday, 7 May and experience Aotearoa music in a new way.
