Sunday 10 May: Melbourne City FC and Wellington Phoenix, the top two teams from the regular season, will face off in an epic Ninja A-League Grand Final on Saturday 16 May at AAMI Park.

Premiers Melbourne City FC will host the Ninja A-League 2026 Grand Final after a 2-0 aggregate win over cross-town rivals Melbourne Victory. Taking a one goal lead into the second leg, Michael Matricciani‘s side took the lead in the 34th minute through a stunning strike from Shelby McMahon, 17, on the edge of the area.

Victory threw everything at City in the second half in search of an equaliser, but it was the teenager’s strike that sealed the win on the day, and City’s place in the showpiece event.

Melbourne City FC is chasing a record-equalling fifth Championship, and an historic treble, after lifting the Premier’s Plate and ahead of their AFC Women's Champions League 2026/27 Semi Final in South Korea on 20 May following the Ninja A-League Grand Final.

In the other Semi Final, the Wellington Phoenix secured a place in their first-ever Grand Final after overcoming the Brisbane Roar 3-2 on aggregate after the two legs and extra time.

In a tight and tense first half, in front of a record Porirua Park crowd of 5,923, it was the Phoenix who broke the deadlock on 43 minutes with a fast counter attack and clinical finish by Makala Woods to level the scores at 2-2 on aggregate at half time.

The arm wrestle continued in a physical second half as both sides pushed for a winning goal, with neither side able to find a winner sending the Semi Final into extra time. After more than 100 minutes of play, Phoenix forward Woods stepped up to score her second of the match to win the tie and send Wellington into the Grand Final.

The A-Leagues has also confirmed that, for the first time, Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will be used for the Ninja A-League 2026 Grand Final.
