Commission sends Students into Cyber-Space for Human Rights
The Human Rights Commission launched its new web-based bilingual education resource for schools at a function in Wellington today.
Chief Human Rights Commissioner Rosslyn Noonan said that the resource had been developed to provide teachers with relevant and challenging New Zealand focussed materials to teach students about basic human rights.
“Young people need to learn about not only their own rights, but also about their responsibilities to, and the need for respect for, others. Commission research indicated a lack of appropriate New Zealand resources fulfilling that need, “said Ms.Noonan.
“These considerations led to the creation of the Human Rights Pathway which the Commission is delighted it is now able to offer to New Zealand schools and students as a human rights teaching resource”.
The resource has been specifically designed for the New Zealand Social Studies Curriculum and its achievement objectives. It can be accessed at www.pathway.hrc.co.nz.
Associate Minister of Justice, the Hon. Margaret Wilson officially launched the resource at today’s function.
