Wildcat teachers not acting in good faith

The teachers engaging in wildcat strike action are not acting in good faith in terms of the Employment Relations Act, the Employers & Manufacturers Association (Northern) points out.

"The teachers' wildcat strike action is not an appropriate way to react to the failure of their union to deliver better conditions of employment," said Peter Tritt, EMA's Manager of Advisory Services.

"Their wildcat actions are counter to the good faith provisions of the Employment Relations Act.

"They are bringing the law into disrepute.

"After negotiating with the Government in good faith, the teachers union presented an offer to its members. Without apparently considering the offer, some teachers have gone straight to strike action. Good faith requires them to consider the offer and vote on it before taking any further action."
