TEC Will Need Student Input

The Aotearoa Tertiary Students’ Association (ATSA) has welcomed today’s announcement of the members of the new Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), but is adamant that TEC will need input from student representatives.

“ATSA is pleased to see that the Commissioners have a broad range of skills and experience,” said Julie Pettett, ATSA President. “At the same time we believe that there must be a system in place for the Commissioners to hear the views of students.”

ATSA is calling for the Tertiary Education Commissioners to ensure that students are fully represented on any advisory committees to TEC.

“Given that TEC is charged with working closely with all stakeholders, we believe that the main stakeholders of tertiary education, students, will need to be a part of any committees that are established to provide advice to TEC,” said Pettett. “Student representation is vital if TEC wants to be responsive to the needs of learners.”
