New NZSTA National Executive named

New Zealand School Trustee President Chris France will hold the position for another two years following his re-election over the weekend.

The announcement follows a vote at NZSTA’s AGM held in Hamilton this weekend. The conference has attracted its biggest ever turnout with 675 delegates attending.

Chris France says he has enjoyed the past two years as president, and his decision to restand was largely based on a desire to continue the momentum.

“The last two years have been immensely enjoyable and challenging. The term passes very quickly and while progress has been made, I still have unfinished business that I want to see through to its completion.”

He says like any other trustee the overwhelming reason he is involved is to make a contribution to delivering quality education to students.

“We should never forget why we are here – it is to ensure that our students not only have a right to education but they also have a right to a quality education.

“ In New Zealand we have the unique privilege of being given the opportunity to have a direct influence on our schools and the numbers of trustees around the country shows that we value that opportunity.”

Meanwhile, the delegates also voted on the National Executive, with Canterbury’s Christine Nijdam and Southland’s Chris Haines retaining their positions unopposed.

For the North Island positions, Lorraine Kerr (Taupo),and Margaret Reddick (Waihi) were re-elected, and Auckland’s Ian Alexander is a new member elected to the national executive.

Also appointed were representatives for North and South Island Maori. They were Ara Hudson (Hawke’s Bay), April Taulengi (Hamilton), Riria Tautau (Dunedin), Don Pere (Christchurch), Grayanna Panirau-Phillips (Canterbury), and Marama York (Invercargill).
