Social Worker In Schools Programme
“If the Government is serious about reducing abuse and violence against children and enhancing their learning potential, it will adequately resource the Social Worker in Schools Programme,” Beryl Anderson, National Council of Women’s President said today.
The National Council of Women supports a roll-out of the Social Worker in Schools Programme to all schools teaching up to year 8 - primary and intermediate schools.
“While the social worker builds up a trust relationship and works with the child and their family, teachers can focus on what they do best - teach the next generation of New Zealanders,” Miss Anderson said.
“A safe personal environment enhances children’s learning opportunities, especially their literacy and numeracy skills.”
“We urge the Government to focus on the success of this programme and to ensure adequate numbers of social workers are trained to enable the programme to be rolled out to all schools,” Miss Anderson said.
