New Secretary For Nz Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee
Professor David Skegg, who takes up the position of Vice-Chancellor of the University of Otago in August, is the new secretary of the New Zealand Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee.
He replaces University of Auckland Vice-Chancellor Dr John Hood who leaves shortly to take up a new post as Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University.
Professor Skegg is an internationally-renowned cancer researcher and like Dr Hood, a former Rhodes Scholar. He chairs an international breast cancer research group centred at Oxford and advises the World Health Organisation’s Special Programme of Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction.
Professor Skegg’s new role on the NZ Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee involves the oversight of the national selection procedure which sees three outstanding all-round graduates from the New Zealand university system go to Oxford to complete postgraduate study at one of the world’s most prestigious universities.
