Twenty one years of Student Job Search Aotearoa

Twenty one years of Student Job Search Aotearoa

"Over the past twenty-one years Student Job Search Aotearoa has assisted thousands of tertiary students gain access to in-term and summer employment" said Julie Pettett, Chairperson of Student Job Search Aotearoa. "The employment student's gain often means the difference between being able to continue studying… or not"

Over the past 12 months student leaders and Student Job Search staff from around Aotearoa New Zealand have been seeking to enhance the services offered. This has resulted in the decision to strengthen the organisation capacity to interact with students, employers, the business and tertiary sectors, through the realignment of Student Job Search.

"Student Job Search is an integral part of both the business and tertiary sectors" says Pettett. "The social and economic development of New Zealand is dependant on today's students becoming the skilled and educated workforce of the future. Student Job Search Aotearoa gives many students the opportunity to be just that… the future of Aotearoa New Zealand"

Colmar Brunton research (2003) commissioned by Student Job Search Aotearoa, indicated strongly that there were two primary reasons students worked whilst studying. Firstly as a means to fund their living / study costs and secondly to gain valuable workplace experience that would assist them gain employment upon graduation.

Since 2002 Student Job Search has had 'FutureGrad' teams establishing relationships with employers, to assist with placing students in jobs where they can gain relevant and transferable skills. It’s a win-win situation for students and employers. "The new Student Job Search Aotearoa will build on the momentum of this success" says Pettett

The 21st celebration and the new Student Job Search Aotearoa will be officially launched by the Hon. Steve Maharey (Minister for Social Development and Associate Minister of Education-Tertiary Education) at 4pm on Thursday 19 August in Rutherford House, Wellington.
