NCEA results update

NCEA results update

The New Zealand Qualifications Authority is on track to release NCEA results to 144,000 students in about a fortnight (26-28 January).

Acting Chief Executive Karen Sewell says the additional monitoring processes in place during marking last year means students can be confident that the results are a fair and accurate reflection of their performance.

"We monitored the results daily against how we expected the students to perform. Early analysis of the results shows that in some instances student performance exceeded the expectations, and in others, it was lower.

"To achieve, students must have reached the standard. The profiles of expected performance were used as an indication of what might be expected. We accepted the professional judgement of the markers in those instances where student performance exceeded or did not meet the profiles," says Karen Sewell.

"Our open and transparent approach will continue as we enter the next phase of the assessment round which is the release of results to students. We are currently analysing the NCEA results and I look forward to releasing and discussing the details as soon as possible."

The additional monitoring processes resulted in reviewing and remarking 17 (5 per cent) of the 335 standards. Human Biology level 1 (90177) was added to the list on Christmas Eve.
