"Research into New Zealand's future skill and training needs will help shape the future tertiary education landscape", says Darel Hall, Executive Director of the Industry Training Federation.
Research to support the ITOs' leadership role: Analysis of economic and social environment is a future-focused study of the New Zealand economic and social environment, with a specific emphasis on the strategic skills and training issues arising from that environment.
"The New Zealand Institute of Economic Research (NZIER) conducted research will allow ITOs to put their legislative skills leadership role for their industries in the context of broader national and international trends.
"The trends discussed in the report, such as demographic change, globalisation, and the growing importance of the service sector, are going to change the way New Zealanders participate in learning and work.
When announcing his tertiary education reforms Tertiary Education Minister Dr Michael Cullen stated that "ITOs have a key role to play in identifying the skill needs of their industries and seeking to meet them. We need to build on this dynamic so it benefits the whole tertiary system".
