AMPTEE welcomes new Education Secretary
AMPTEE welcomes new Education Secretary
The Aotearoa
Providers of Training, Education and Employment welcome the
appointment of Karen Sewell as the new Secretary for
Education. With many years of experience at the coal face
coupled with a deep knowledge of government education
process, Karen brings excellent skills and knowledge to this
role.
Samantha Lundon, AMPTEE Co-Chair states ‘Of all the sectors in Education, it is tertiary education that is facing the greatest change. If we are to ensure all New Zealanders and not just the privileged have access to opportunities, we need to support those in the sector who are meeting the needs and expectations of students, businesses and iwi’
The AMPTEE Executive meet quarterly with the key government agencies and look forward to hosting Karen in her new role. Of primary importance to AMPTEE is the role that Māori Providers play in providing quality options for many Māori learners. The current governments’ reforms have seen a significant decrease in the number of Māori Providers as the funding priority shifts to state owned Institutions.
