EVENT: ‘Celebrating the Montessori Centenary’ - Dinner with Italian Regional Food and wine

MARIA MONTESSORI EDUCATION CELEBRATE 100 YEARS WITH A TASTE OF ITALY

FEATURING A VISUAL PRESENTATION BY INTERNATIONAL GUEST SPEAKER CHERYL FERREIRA

Friday 20th July at ‘Taste’ - 45 Normanby Rd, Mt Eden - 7PM

A mouth watering occasion to celebrate 100 years of Montessori education with a culinary tour of Italy has been a huge success – a sell out in fact! This confirms the actuality of this education system and the ever-growing kiwi love affair with the Italian Cuisine.

The event, ‘Celebrating the Montessori Centenary’ has been commissioned by the Maria Montessori Education Trust (MMEF)in cooperation with Al Dente By Raffaela Delmonte - Home of Italian Food and Culture.

MMEF have invited Cheryl Ferreira, London, to New Zealand to increase interest and momentum for the inaugural AMI teacher training course to be held in Auckland in 2008.

Cheryl, born in Mumbai, India, is a member of staff at Maria Montessori Training organization (MMTO) London and she will be the Director of Training for the Auckland 2008 AMI 3-6 Diploma Course.

The menu (attached) for the evening has been specifically designed as a "gastronomic tour of Italian regions" with specialties from 7 Regions of Italy, from the Northern Alps to Sicily.

Raffaela Delmonte selected each of the products for the 8 courses, kindly sponsored by producers/importers of top quality Italian food and wine.

Risotto with authentic Gorgonzola cheese will be just one of the delights prepared by Milano born Raffaela in front of over 70 guests.

Montessori schools have been present in New Zealand for over 25 years though next year will see the first AMI Montessori course in New Zealand. Until now this International Diploma has only be offered overseas.

Dr Maria Montessori – born in Italy in 1870 opened her first Casa dei Bambini (children’s house) in 1907 in the slums in Rome. This year – 2007 – the International Montessori community celebrates 100 years of Montessori education. The proposed event will commemorate this auspicious occasion.

The Maria Montessori Education Foundation was established as a charitable trust in 2005. Its aim is to establish AMI Montessori teacher training in New Zealand and to further ‘Champion the Cause of all Children’.
