New Zealand Schools Novotel 1st XV Championship - 2007 for the Barbarians Cup
Rotorua September 1-3
With Hamilton Boys High School's 10-3 win over Wesley College all four semi finalists for the New Zealand Schools Novotel 1st XV Championship have been decided.
This highly popular tournament is backed by worldwide hotel chain Novotel and the 70-year-old New Zealand Barbarian Rugby Club, marking the Barbarians 70th birthday. Both Novotel Hotels & Resorts and the New Zealand Barbarian Rugby Club are enjoying the second year of sponsoring New Zealand Schools Rugby displaying a commitment to the development of the game and to our young players.
All matches will be played at the Whakarewarewa Club's ground in Rotorua on Te Ngai Road.
Saturday
September 1 First-round matches
1.30pm: Mt Albert Grammar School v Nelson College
3pm: Hamilton Boys High School v
Gisborne Boys High School
On Sunday the boys have a day
to rest and recover and will also attend the Championship
Dinner, hosted by Novotel Lakeside Rotorua
Monday 3 September Finals day
12noon: Playoff for third and forth
1.30pm: Final kicking
These will be hotly contested matches as not only is the Barbarians Cup up for grabs, but top performances by individual players could see them selected for the New Zealand Secondary Schools 1st XV team, current holders of the Novotel Trans Tasman Shield (the Bledisloe Cup of Schools' Rugby) who will meet the Australian Schools 1st XV in October for the 2007 trans-Tasman test.
