All’s ‘fare’ when it comes to being the top chef
Manukau Institute of Technology’s Catering and Hospitality School (CHATS) students are cooking up a great menu in preparation for the prestigious 17th Nestlé Toque D'Or competition. The Toque D'Or event is held alongside the 2007 New Zealand Culinary Fare.
The fare, which consists of 63 competitions held across three days from 2-4 September, profiles more than 1000 chefs vying for national titles. All sectors of the hospitality and service industry participate in the event – chefs, sommeliers, waiters, baristas and hospitality students. They compete in front of a live audience and 140 industry experts.
Last year, MIT students took out one gold, four silver and four bronze medals in a host of categories at the fare, and won silver in the Toque D'Or competition.
