PM to open Henderson High School Science Block
Prime Minister Helen Clark will officially open the new state-of-the-art Science Block at Henderson High School at 1.30pm Friday 12th October 2007.
‘The new science block is the first completely new building driven by roll growth in more than three decades at our school,’ said Board of Trustees Chair David Munro today. ‘We are honoured that the Rt Hon Helen Clark can join us for the celebration of this fantastic achievement and officially open the new building for us.’
The new building incorporates the most modern thinking about teaching and learning spaces and compliments the school’s commitment to flexible individualised leaning opportunities.
‘The teaching spaces are designed to allow for flexibility and integrated teaching. Our new science block is not a separate monument to science as some sort of isolated discipline, but is in fact built to ensure that science can be integrated into a rounded full-curriculum approach to learning,’ said Mr Munro.
The learning approach at Henderson will often see students studying across the curricula areas as they investigate big issues and themes.
‘If a class is studying ‘sustainability’ as an example, then that topic may feature in their humanities subjects as well as technology and science. Our new building compliments that learning style and honours our students with a modern environment to nurture their learning as they deserve.’
