Christchurch Voice School unique in the world
A world exclusive voice-over school is about to be run in Christchurch.
The ‘Voice School’ is run by Christchurch-based studios and media producers, Tandem Voice Booth, and has been running annual courses for 3 years.
It focuses on improving the abilities of the participants and teaches them efficient ways of gaining work, providing voiceovers for TV, Radio, phone systems and multimedia projects.
Tutors on the course include seasoned voice professionals, heard daily on radio, in supermarkets, and on television. Tutors include; Richard Green, Deb Stanaway, Andie Spargo, and Dave Dunlay.
The course director, Toby Ricketts, says “This school is the only one of it’s kind in the world and offers aspiring voice talent to learn and perfect their skills before becoming a professional voice artist.”
The course covers;
• Character voicing and
accents.

• What clients look for and how to get
work.

• General speech, breathing, and
relaxation.
•
• Voice acting, radio
drama.
•
• Script
interpretation.
•
• Studio etiquette and
professionalism.
•
The applications for these
skills are not just for people wanting to appear on radio or
television though. “These skills can be used by anyone who
uses their voice for authority. CEOs, airline pilots, and
teachers can all find benefits from learning about their
voice and how to properly apply it in their line of work”
says Toby Ricketts.
A demo CD is produced as part of the course which the students can use to obtain voice work in New Zealand and around the world.
The cost is $675 including GST and runs for 2 days on the weekend of the 24th and 25th of January 2009, from 9am – 4pm
Another course is scheduled for the 21st and 22nd of February.
