Commissioner Appointed For Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate
The Secretary for Education, Karen Sewell, has appointed Gail Thomson as the commissioner for Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate to replace the board, effective from 30 January 2009.
Gail Thomson has been appointed with all functions, powers and duties of the board.
The Education Review Office recently completed a report that makes recommendations in a number of areas for Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate. The report, and the Ministry’s review of information about the collegiate, identified a range of problems that need to be addressed relating to:
• Student Achievement
• Student
Safety
• Governance
• Personnel Management
Gail Thomson has a depth of experience in working with schools that require support and has been successful as a statutory appointee in a range of schools. She has had 15 years experience as a senior manager in New Zealand schools including 10 years as Executive Principal of the Diocesan School for Girls, a year 1-13 school. She is widely respected for her knowledge of the education sector and educational management.
