Expo quenches thirst for ingenuity

Innovation and technology is vitally important to New Zealand’s future growth, particularly in these recessionary times. To showcase some exciting innovative and technology-driven initiatives going on within New Zealand organisations, Wellington Institute of Technology is hosting the first ever Innovation and Technology Expo on September 25-26 at their Petone Campus.

A wide variety of businesses and industry representatives will be on campus profiling their innovations and new technologies. Organisers say the event is all about providing an opportunity to learn about innovation, technology, environmental sustainability and smart ideas for future growth.

In addition to interactive displays and information, the public will have the opportunity to attend a variety of technology-focused workshops with guest speakers across the two days. One such workshop will be run by Creative HQ which is all about cashing in on great ideas. The workshop, entitled Commercialising Innovation: the chasm between thinking and acting, imagining and doing will be run by Tui Te Hau, Programme Manager of Creative HQ.

“Many people may have a great idea for a business, and may have even developed the product - but how do they then go about making money from it? In our workshop we will cover practical steps designed to put people on the right track to uncover the commercial potential of their great ideas” says Ms Te Hau.

Event organisers are expecting the event will have a lot of interest for both business and the general public and the hundreds of school children expected to attend. “There are so many new career and business opportunities available today as a result of more innovative and technology driven advancements. This event is an opportunity to catch a glimpse of what is happening at the leading edge and see really exciting new ventures we can all look forward to” says WelTec spokesperson Ms Robson.
