NorthTec’s Interim Chief Executive visits Kaitaia Hospital

NorthTec’s Interim Chief Executive Paul Binney visited Kaitaia Hospital last week to thank those who support NorthTec’s Nursing programme and students through providing clinical placements and mentorship.

There are currently 11 NorthTec nursing students doing their clinical placements on wards in Kaitaia Hospital. Students are paired with a registered nurse on the ward and gain a range of experience in general wards, theatre, day stay and the emergency ward.

The nursing class that will graduate at the end of this year is the second group to complete their NorthTec nursing degree while based in Kaitaia.

Mr Binney took the opportunity to meet with representatives from Whangaroa Health Services, Te Tai Tokerau PHO and Te Hauora o Te Hiku o Te Ika who are members of the local advisory group for the Nursing programme while he was at Kaitaia Hospital.

The local advisory group works with NorthTec to ensure that the nursing training that is provided is appropriate to the industry and produces the graduates that health providers will want to employ.

“We are very grateful to Kaitaia Hospital and to the local advisory group for the Kaitaia region,” said Mr Binney. “Their support is crucial to the learning experience that we are able to offer our nursing students.”
