NZ Kids Grow Veggies and Minds with McCAIN

Kids love nothing more than getting outside with their friends at school; however their developing minds often need new and exciting activities to keep them stimulated. What better way to educate Kiwi kids about vegetables and where they come from than taking them outdoors and getting them to grow their own? The McCAIN School Veggie Patches program does exactly that.

For the past six weeks primary schools across the country have been invited to register for the first ever McCAIN School Veggie Patches Program.

This program aims to engage children in an interactive way and teach them about the importance of where veggies come from. New Zealand primary schools have recognised the value of this and after just six weeks, 517 primary schools have come on board!

Once schools register, anyone who purchases selected McCAIN products (and provides the barcode to their local school) will gain points for that school. Registered schools can then redeem their points for a range of gardening tools, seeds and equipment such as wheelbarrows, water tanks and compost bins to help their school's veggie patch flourish.

"Involving children in the process of growing, harvesting, eating and even buying vegetables is a great way to get them excited about eating veggies," says Nicki Anderson, marketing director of McCAIN Foods Australia and New Zealand.

"The McCAIN School Veggie Patches program equips students with invaluable knowledge and a hands-on experience that will continue to grow with them well into the future."

To show your support and earn points for your local primary school, simply collect barcodes from any pack of McCAIN frozen vegetables or McCAIN Purely Potato and either drop them into your local registered primary school or send in a stamped envelope with the name, town and postcode of your chosen primary school to:
