Ministry wants to meet PPTA priorities

Following the PPTA’s public statement of its three main priorities for secondary teacher bargaining, the Ministry of Education has reiterated its call for the union to come back to bargaining.

Group Manager Education Workforce Fiona McTavish said the PPTA President had made a very clear public statement that the union’s main priorities are class size, remuneration, and no change to call back days.

“We’re more than ready to sit down at the table, address these priorities with the PPTA, and reach a settlement that satisfies all parties,” she said.

“As a sign of our good faith and our desire to get on with bargaining, we’ve decided to not dock the pay of teachers who are striking this week,” said Fiona McTavish.

“We strongly urge the PPTA to cancel all of the industrial action planned for the rest of Term 4. We want to get on with bargaining and settle the issues at the table.”
