Chances shrinking of settlement this year
The Ministry of Education and the PPTA have almost run out of time to settle the Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement by the end of this school year, the Ministry of Education said today.
“Throughout this process, the Ministry has worked in good faith with the PPTA,” said Group Manager Education Workforce Fiona McTavish.
“We come to bargaining wanting to settle. We’ve worked hard to address the PPTA’s main concerns. We’ve been clear about the size of the funding envelope, and that we have to work with the PPTA to determine priorities for that funding,” Fiona McTavish said.
“While both parties have made progress towards agreement on various matters, we haven’t been able to find a way forward on certain key issues. This is extremely disappointing.
“We feel great frustration for the families, students and schools who will continue to suffer the disruption of strike action for the rest of this Term,” she said.
“We’ll keep encouraging the PPTA to call off its strikes and come back to the table. We want to settle this year, but am unsure of the level of commitment in the PPTA,” she said.
