NZ Home-Based ECE Association Announces New Cover for Educators
The New Zealand Home-based ECE Association yesterday released information to the home-based childcare sector about the steps they have taken to assist self employed educators working from their own homes within the industry.
Ms Stovold, president of the NZHECEA says "We were very concerned to find that most educators working in the home-based ECE sector did not have any form of public liability insurance in place. Some services have provided cover but at a considerable cost. In conjunction with our broker Rothbury's, we have been able to negotiate a membership package that now includes public and statutory liability cover."
The need for public liability became clear last year when a gate fell on top of a child who required hospitalization for injuries sustained at the home of an educator. If public liability cover had been in place for the educator, the costs that arose from this incident for the parents may have been met by the insurance.
Ms Stovold says "Having insurance covers such as public and statutory liability is mandatory for home-based ECE educators working from their own home in Australia. We were surprised to find that most educators in New Zealand were not protecting public who use their services, and themselves, by not having this type of insurance".
The new membership package for Homebased educators includes both public and statutory liability and is extremely cost effective. "For less than a cup of coffee a week, by joining the New Zealand Homebased ECE Association, educators and families can now rest assured that they will be covered in the unlikely event of injury or damages" says Ms Stovold.
There are over 7000 educators providing Homebased ECE throughout the country. The New Zealand Homebased ECE Association is a national non-profit Incorporated Society that represents the NZ Homebased ECE sector. Membership is open to all individuals working in the Homebased ECE sector. Educators are able join even if the service they work for is not a member.
Details of how to join ,or for parents looking for home-based childcare, can be found on the website www.nzhomebasedece.org.nz
