Public Meeting called to show opposition to increased class sizes
People Power in Support of Pupils
A public meeting in Dunedin at the Regent Theatre next Wednesday June 13 at 4.30pm is to give all stakeholders an opportunity to show their concern and to raise awareness of the effects that the National Government’s policy to increase pupil-teacher ratios will have on Otago children, families and schools.
The meeting will see all school communities and education sector groups joining together to demonstrate their opposition to the cuts that will affect all Otago children.
Speakers:
Paul Drummond, National President of the New
Zealand Principals’ Federation. Anthony Deaker,
parent and school trustee.
The meeting will be chaired by local media personality Damian Newell and will conclude with an opportunity for questions from the floor.
This public meeting is initiated by the Otago Primary Principals’ Association and is supported by the Otago Secondary Principals, Southern Area Schools, the New Zealand Principals’ Federation and the Otago Branch of the New Zealand School Trustees Association. It follows an advertisement in the Otago Daily Times on June 6 to publicly state that Otago children matter and that their education counts and encourage the government to focus on sense rather than dollars.
Association President Brent Caldwell says, “The meeting is a call to all parents and school community members to make a public stand and become fully informed about changes that will affect every Otago child, every Otago school, every Otago family.”
