Commitment to effective and efficient payroll system

The Secretary for Education, Lesley Longstone has assured schools the Ministry is committed to addressing the backlog of Novopay transactions, and thanked them for their patience during the payroll transition.

“The Ministry accepts there have been teething issues moving to a new system and a lot of work is being done to resolve issues that have emerged since implementation,” says Ms Longstone.

The following improvements are being made:

• Extra staff are working in the Novopay call-centre
• Extra webinars are being offered
• Extra staff are working on Novopay data-entry
• Novopay experts are visiting schools to assist principals and payroll administrators.
• Specialist training sessions will be offered for all schools to assist with end-of-year pay-cycle processes.

“The Ministry is meeting daily with the payroll provider Talent2 and I have also made our expectations very clear to the Chief Executive and Chairman. They have given us a commitment that more resources and staff have been deployed and will continue to be.

“The Novopay system is paying the vast majority of staff correctly. However, the Ministry acknowledges there are issues that must be addressed,” says Ms Longstone.

Talent2 will be taking a school-by-school approach to rectify any issues in relation to the last four pay-cycles.

“While improvements have been made, this is a very complex undertaking and it will take some further time before we are where we need to be. I want to thank school staff for their patience as we continue to work through these issues to get it right.”
