Employment matters resolved

The Acting Secretary for Education, Peter Hughes, says employment matters related to the Novopay Ministerial Inquiry have been resolved and the focus is firmly on moving forward.

Mr Hughes has confirmed that a second senior staff member who was involved in the Novopay project has resigned.

“These staff members made their own decisions and I have great respect for how they have acted.

“I received an offer of resignation before the release of the Inquiry report, but it was appropriate to wait until we could properly consider the findings.

“These managers have acknowledged their part in some of the things that went wrong and have chosen to resign.”

Mr Hughes says the staff members have both made considerable contributions during their time at the Ministry.

“The employment matters related to Novopay are now behind us, and the focus remains very clearly on getting the pay system working well for all school staff.

“We’re making good and steady progress under the payroll business unit set up earlier this year under a new Deputy Secretary.

“The fortnightly pay runs have stabilised, the defects in the system are being resolved, the backlog clearance unit is making headway and business processes and communications have improved.”
