NZ Winter Universiade team going strong in Trentino, Italy

A strong team of student athletes are representing New Zealand in alpine skiing, snowboarding and speed skating at the 26th Winter Universiade 2013 now underway in Trentino, Italy.

This biannual winter games event – which also includes events such as figure skating, curling, cross-country skiing and ice hockey – is organised under the auspices of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and will run until Saturday 21st December.

The New Zealand team has seven competitors from a mix of Universities (AUT, Waikato, Canterbury, Otago), Otago Polytechnic and the NZ Institute of Sport.

The competitors for New Zealand and their disciplines are:

• Chelsea Wallace, alpine skier

• George Beattie, snowboarder

• Hannah Orchard, snowboarder

• Natalie Good, snow boarder

• Jamie Sutton, speed skater

• Christopher Jarden, speed skater

• Ben Whiteside, speed skater

The team is being cared for under the watchful eyes of Rosemary Nye and Robyn Orchard.
