Student Mishaps a Boost to Youthline
Student fines totalling $3,000 have been donated to Youthline by global tertiary accommodation provider Campus Living Villages (CLV).
One of the world’s largest tertiary accommodation providers, CLV has made the donation as part of its resident fining scheme.
Students living at Canterbury University’s UCA Halls of residence were fined over a number of rule breaches whist living on campus in 2014. Some of the breaches included disorderly behaviour, noise & speeding infringements or parking fines.
Supporting Youthline was an obvious choice according to Chief Operating Officer Nik Webb-Shephard.
“We work with young people every day and we understand the problems they face,” he says. “It is organisations like Youthline that work tirelessly to help our residents through difficult times. We hope this donation will go some way towards supporting the fantastic service that Youthline provides to all young New Zealander’s”.
This is not the first time CLV has donated to Youthline. Te Puni Village in Wellington held a collection drive earlier in the year and donated all proceeds to Youthline.
Youthline National Spokesperson Stephen Bell thanked Campus Living Villages for the donation and said he hoped it would be a reminder to young people that good things can come from unlikely places, even from mishaps. “Youthline greatly appreciates the support from CLV” he says. “The donation will be put towards running our youth helpline and free text service.” Mr Bell added.
Campus Living Village’s have a very strong global philosophy which underpins the resident experience. Respecting not only the wider village community but also all other residents is part of this philosophy. “Fines are delivered to those who choose not to follow our exemplar in this respect.” Says Mr Webb-Shephard. “We collect the fines over the course of the year and take a lot of pleasure in handing all proceeds back to organisations such as Youthline”.
