Te Taura Whiri and Plunket Partner to Nurture te reo Māori in Parents
Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori and Plunket
have partnered for Te Wiki o te reo Māori 2015 to
complement this year’s Māori Language Week theme
‘Whāngaihia te reo ki ngā Mātua’ Nurture the Language
in Parents.
Māori language resources to encourage and support every day Māori language use for parents and caregivers with children created by the Commission with Plunket support have been developed and this week Plunket and Taura Whiri will host a play group session to introduce these resources to parents.
“For the language to thrive, it needs to be used regularly and meaningfully.
This year’s theme uses phrases that provide instant and natural examples of verbal Māori language for use by parents and caregivers with children, such as ‘Haramai, e te tau, Come here my darling and Kaua e tangi e te tau Don’t cry, my darling” says Acting Chief Executive Tuehu Harris.
