National forum brings practical focus

National forum brings practical focus to linking education and industry for a skilled workforce

New Zealand’s Vocational Education and Training Research Forum get’s underway this morning in Wellington with the global head of UNESCO’s Youth, Literacy, and Skills Development section and the chief executive of the UK Commission for Employment and Skills headlining a strong programme of plenary and concurrent sessions.

UNESCO’s Dr Borhène Chakroun (Chief of Section, Youth, Literacy, and Skills Development) will open the forum with a presentation on UNESCO’s vision for vocational education and training. Day Two will commence with Michael Davis, Chief Executive, United Kingdom Commission for Employment and Skills, discussing the UK perspective on achieving Growth Through People.

The forum is New Zealand’s largest event dedicated to research on skills, training, and relationships between education and the labour market. Now in its 12th year, the forum has a strong practical focus and emphasizes linking the people who research these issues with the people who work in the sector: educators, policymakers, and industry representatives.

Since 2014 the forum has been co-hosted by the Industry Training Federation – New Zealand’s leading representative body for workplace-based learning – and Ako Aotearoa – New Zealand’s National Centre for Tertiary Teaching Excellence.
